Class Descriptions

‘Bumble Bee’ Ballet Pre-Ballet Programs

Bumble Bee’ Pre-Ballet I  (Pre I)  45 minutes

Ages 3 through 4 (must be 3 by September)

Pre I is an introduction to Ballet.  This creative movement class is designed to teach basic dance steps, positions and terminology, while developing the students’ large motor skills, musical awareness and appreciation for dance; using classical and contemporary music.  These basic concepts include learning how to take turns, following one another or leading the way, waiting patiently, cooperating with others, and of course – using imagination!

‘Bumble Bee’ Pre-Ballet II  (Pre II)  50 minutes

Ages 4 through 5 (must be 4 by September)

Pre II is the next step in introduction to ballet.  This class is designed to provide children with a strong foundation in dance.  It teaches the young dancer the basic elements of movement and dance, space and how to relate to it, basic locomotive skills, musicality, sequencing, patterns and spatial relationships, opposites and directions, elementary Ballet positions, basic steps, and proper terminology.  Integrated with these physical  concepts are the intellectual concepts of self-awareness, creative expression, imagination, teamwork, classroom behavior, and manners.

  ‘Butterfly’ Ballet

‘Butterfly Ballet’ Ballet I  (Ballet I)  Full 1 hour Ballet class

 - with (optional) additional ½ hour Jazz

Ages 6 through 8

This class is designed to promote a solid foundation in Ballet technique.  A full hour class with emphasis on correct body placement and positioning, turn out, carriage of the arms, balance, stretching and extension.  Age appropriate steps will be introduced, more time will be spent working at the barre and in the center, as well as multiple steps being combined traveling from the corner.  This all being demonstrated through instruction that continues to teach a love for dance, imagination, self expression, and self confidence.

Jazz is a high-energy, fast-paced class where students learn to dance to the beat of the music, isolate individual body parts, combine complex foot-work patterns, kick, leap, turn and jam!  In this ½ hour class, students will get a taste for the various styles and qualities that define jazz dance such as rhythmical variations, syncopation and  phrasing.  We will explore many styles, characteristics, and techniques.
